Four Concealed Handgun Permit Holders use their guns to stop violent crimes in the last week

Calumet City, Illinois, December 17, 2015

A Calumet City resident prevented a gunmen from robbing him by pulling out his gun and firing it at the would-be robber, Midlothian police reported.
The 68-year-old man, who has a concealed-carry gun permit, told police that a man tried to rob him and his 9-year-old son Dec. 5 in the 3300 block of 147th Street.
A witness said he heard people arguing outside, heard four or five gunshots and saw a man running through back yards heading south on Turner Avenue, according to police. . . .

Salt Lake City, Utah, December 15, 2015

He "produced a firearm, pointing it at the EMT first responders," Jensen wrote.

Hunt [an EMT], who has a concealed firearms license, was carrying a gun.

"Logan City detectives and State Crime Lab technicians are still piecing together the sequence of events," Jensen wrote, "but it is believed there was an exchange of gunfire, followed by a rapid retreat of all personnel to positions of cover." . . .

Houston, Texas, December 14, 2015

. . . It was the end to a night out that a group of people and then men who tried to rob them never expected.
“He plugged him, boom, boom, in the chest,” said one of the four victims, who did not want to give his name.
The man said he, his brother and two women were about to leave a parking lot near the bars along Washington Avenue and Jackson Hill just after 2 a.m. when two men with handguns walked up to their car.
“He said ‘Hey, give me your money,’” recalled the victim. “Well, I don’t carry cash, I just have a card. So I put up my card and my ID, and I was like, ‘Hey man this is all I have.’”
When the suspect slapped the items out of his hand, the victim says his brother got out of the car and shot the would-be robber twice in the chest. . . .

Evanston, Ohio, December 11, 2015

Cincinnati police said a robbery victim fought back by shooting and killing his 16-year-old assailant late Thursday.
Officers responded to Jonathan Avenue near Fernside Place near Walnut Hills High School about 11:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting, said Captain Russ Neville, the night chief.
When police arrived, they said they a preliminary investigation determined a teen gunman tried to rob one of two contractors rehabilitating a home when the contractor walked outside to retrieve equipment from a van. The contractor turned over his wallet.
The second contractor came to the front door and saw what was occurring, Neville said.
The gunman tried to rob him of his wallet, too, but the man - who has told police he has a permit to carry a concealed gun - pulled out his firearm. . . .

50-year-old concealed handgun permit holder defends himself against two armed robbers

From Detroit's WXYZ-TV Channel 7 ABC:

. . . Police say a 50-year-old resident of the neighborhood was going to the ATM at a Citizens' Bank branch when he was approached by two young men that police describe as being around 18 years old. 

Those young men were armed with a sawed off rifle and a handgun.

Police are still trying to determine exactly what happened, but officers say the robbery victim has a Concealed Carry Permit and defended himself. 

All three men were injured and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. . . .

With the debate over whether soldiers should be armed, here is an Army veteran who knew exactly how to use a gun, may have saved a life

From WALB in Georgia about an Army veteran with a concealed handgun permit who stopped an armed robbery and may have saved a life.  The event occurred in Sycamore, Georgia:

An Army veteran speaks, out after firing three shots at an armed robber in Sycamore. The store clerk says Don Rogers may have saved his life. 

Investigators left the gas station Friday afternoon, with glass was shattered earlier from  Rogers' shots. It's damage the clerk would take any day if it means his life was saved. . . .  

This Vietnam veteran was in this Sycamore gas station getting change for a 20 when his day took a bizarre turn. "I heard somebody say "put the money in the bag". So I looked up and I seen this gentleman holding a pistol on the clerk," said Rogers. . . .  

The gun-carrying veteran pulled his weapon on the robber. "And when I did, he looked over at me and turned my way and I fired a shot. And he grabbed his side and then I fired two more shots before he got out the door," said Rogers. 

Two of the shots hit 18-year old Devin Burton. Burton got into a car driven by, 17-year old Marleigh Agner, and the couple took off down Denham Road, but Burton's condition worsened so they stopped to call 911.  . . .

Female homeowner wounds armed intruder who broke into her home

From Jacksonville, Florida:

It started with a man knocking on the door about 12:30 p.m., asking if a particular person was there. The resident said he didn’t know anyone by that name and tried to close the door. But the intruder pushed his way in, put a gun to his head and said, “This is a robbery, give it up.” 

A woman in a nearby bedroom heard the commotion and came out with a handgun. She dove on the floor firing at the intruder, who shot back. The woman went back into the bedroom to get another handgun and continued shooting. The intruder was hit several times and fell to the floor yelling, “I’m shot; I’m paralyzed.” . . .

Boulder, Colorado man shots person high on mushrooms who broke into his and attacked him

This seems like a very straight forward case of self defense.  From the Boulder Daily Camera:

A Boulder man will not be charged with a crime after shooting and killing a University of Colorado student who broke into his house and attacked him last week, according to the district attorney. 

Police say Roberto Zamora, 19, forced his way into 98 Pima Court at about 8:40 p.m. May 4 and attacked resident Jim McCain, whom he had never met.
McCain shot and killed him. 

Boulder County DA Stan Garnett announced Wednesday he will not charge McCain in the case, citing Colorado's "make my day" law and self-defense law. 

"Under those theories, criminal charges would not be appropriate," Garnett said. "This young man broke into the house and attacked the homeowner." . . .

74-year-old grandma stops knife wielding robber: "You back off, or I’ll blow your head off"

A 74-year-old woman in Fort Worth, Texas stopped a robber who had a knife to her throat (a video from the local Fox affiliate is available here):

Jewell Turner, 74, told NBC 5 she was waiting in her minivan outside of her doctor’s office, near the corner of West Magnolia Avenue and 6th Avenue in the city’s Near South Side, when a man tapped on the glass of her driver’s side window.
Turner said she rolled down the window when the man said he needed directions.
“He stood there and we talked for a while, [him] just asking for directions and me giving them to him,” Turner recalled. “Never thought that when I turned my head that that young man would stick a knife to my throat.” . . .
“I just reached down, got the gun and turned around and pointed it to his face. And I told him, I said, ‘You back off, or I’ll blow your head off.’ And his eyes got big and he just backed up and he took off walking down the street like nothing happened.” . . .

Permit holder defends himself against an armed robber, robber wanted the new Air Jordans the victim had just bought

From WCPO-TV Channel 9 in Cincinnati about a defensive gun use in Dayton, Ohio:

A 16-year-old Middletown High School football player wanted to buy the new Air Jordans on sale Saturday morning at the Dayton Mall. 

But Jawaad Jabbar got there too late and the shoes were gone. . . . 

So Jabbar went outside to the sidewalk and pulled a gun on a man who had just bought the shoes, Phares said. Only, the man had a gun, too. 

"The person who he tried to take the shoes from had a valid carry concealed weapon permit through Ohio, and when he was threatened with a firearm he drew his firearm and discharged it into the juvenile, who then died as a result of a single gunshot wound," Phares said. . . . 

Police caught the other teens. They are in detention in Montgomery County awaiting charges. 

They could face murder charges if it is determined that they had prior knowledge or were a party to the robbery.

Woman with handgun saves the life of her boyfriend after attacker slashes his throat

From Fox News about an attack on January 17th in Racine County, Wisconsin:

. . . Dale Parker and his girlfriend Danell Hintz know first hand that guns can and do save lives. In the dark of the night on January 17, Parker awoke to the sight of a man standing over him with a knife. The former Marine couldn't do much from his position in bed, but began to fight the vicious intruder right away. 

“I automatically sprung up and started fighting the guy right off the bat. It was fight or die,” 57 year old Parker said. Having served in the Marines and working in an auto shop made him both trained in combat fighting and strong to fend off the attack, but he believes Hintz' actions that night ultimately saved his life. 

A year earlier, Danell Hintz applied for a Concealed Carry Permit and with it, received the proper training to handle the firearm per the Wisconsin DOJ Concealed Weapons License requirements. At first, she woke thinking Parker was having a nightmare, but after realizing he was under attack, she immediately reached for the handgun on her nightstand. 

“I didn’t think I just grabbed the gun,” Hintz said. She pointed the firearm at the intruder, but Parker was in her way, still fending off the attack and bleeding profusely from the large gash across his throat. . . .

Elderly black man kills intruder who breaks into his home, relatives of criminal upset that criminal wasn't given sufficient warning before being shot

The relatives of the criminal are upset that he wasn't given sufficient warning.  Put aside that the relatives are speaking out before they even have a clue whether a warning was actually given, it is strange that they put the blame on the elderly black man who was defending himself.  Possibly a warning was given, though if a criminal is in your home at night, someone who might only be feet away, the warning is that the criminal should know that he should be in someone else’s house.

An elderly man shot and killed a would-be burglar inside his Oak Cliff home. 
Police say the homeowner saw Deyfon Pipkins, 33, trying to climb into the window and fired his weapon at least once at the intruder. . . . .
"It means they don't actually have to retreat once someone comes in their home," Sergeant Calvin Johnson, Dallas Police Department, said. "You have the option of using deadly force if you believe your life is in danger."
After police notified relatives of Pipkins' death, some showed up at the house. They were upset, and questioned the homeowner's actions.
"He could have used a warning," Lakesha Thompson, Pipkins' sister-in-law, said. "He could have let him know that he did have a gun on his property and he would use it in self-defense."
Pipkins had a lengthy criminal record. . . .

Two burglars were thwarted by a University of Central Florida student with a gun

Students also benefit from the option to protect themselves.  In the video available here, the male student describes how one of the burglars pointed a gun (what turned out to be a pellet gun) at point blank range right at the student's head.  From WESH.com in Orlando, Florida:

. . . Deputies said the culprits barged into the student's apartment after knocking on the door at the Village at Alafaya Club Tuesday night. 

One of the residents answered the door and was forced to the ground at gunpoint as the men ransacked the apartment, investigators said. 

"He grabbed me by the throat. He took me a little further into the living room and pushed me down and said, 'Don't move. Just stay down,'" UCF student Nour Skargee, 22, said. "They didn't realize my girlfriend was in her room and thank God she was in her room. I yelled, 'Hey, grab the gun.'" 

The second victim, Sable Nehme, ran to her bedroom, retrieved her gun and pointed it at the culprits, deputies said. . . .

Two quotes that do a good job of describing how

Intended victim Sable Nehme: "when he saw the gun, he turned right back around, darted out and both of them fled the apartment" 

Intended victim UCF student Nour Skargee, 22, said : "If we didn't have a gun, it would have been game over. They were bigger than me, bigger than both of us. We had no way of stopping them. The gun was the one thing that made them run."

 

Masked gunman fatally shot as he tried breaking into home at midnight

The masked, armed, home invader here apparently was suspected in another murder.  Fortunately, the home owner was able to protect himself after he was shot.  From Chester, Pennsylvania (the Delaware County Daily Times):

Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old man late Sunday during a confrontation in which he is believed to have tried to force his way into a city home.Terrance Reason was identified as the man who was fatally shot at about 11:46 p.m. in the 1100 block of Walnut Street.
According to police, a masked gunman, later identified as Reason, tried to force his way into a house in that block. The occupants held the door closed, preventing him from entering, according to Captain Anita Amaro.
Reason raised his arm and began firing, striking a 30-year-old male occupant in the leg, police said. The wounded man returned fire, striking Reason in the shoulder, according to police.
Reason fled from the scene, but later showed up at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. He was taken into surgery, where he died, police said.
The 30-year-old victim was transported to CCMC, where he was listed in stable condition.
Investigators had long eyed Reason as a suspect in the October 12, 2010, shooting death of Whylisha Foreman, but he was never charged, according to police sources. . . .

Papa John's lets pizza delivery woman who shot armed robber keep her job, Police: "She had no other choice"

As the police say, the pizza delivery woman "had no other choice" and she would have been in real danger if she hadn't had her concealed handgun permit.  From Fox News:

The employee was making a delivery in Decatur, Ga., Sunday night when a man approached her vehicle, forcing her onto the ground at gunpoint, according to the DeKalb County Police Department. The woman, who had a gun in her pocket, was able to fire at the man while on the ground -- striking the alleged assailant, identified as 24-year-old Donquaz Stevenson, in the face. 

Stevenson was later found in a neighbor's yard and arrested, according to police, who said the pizza delivery might have been a setup. Local media outlets reported that a second suspect carjacked the delivery woman's silver 2000 Honda Accord and remains on the run. 

Stevenson was charged with armed robbery and was being treated for a gunshot wound at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. 

The delivery woman's mother had told WSB-TV her daughter is worried she may lose her job because she was carrying a firearm at work for protection. . . . 

"She had no other choice. She must have been in fear for her life and she reacted," Capt. Stephen Fore with the DeKalb County Police Department told WSB-TV.  . . .

Homeowner shots to death home invader, defends pregnant fiancé

This might not have gone as smoothly as one would want, but against two robbers it isn't clear what other option this many had.  From TheIndyChannel ABC Channel 6:

. . . IMPD [Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department] officers were called to a residence on the 3100 block of East 10th Street at 10:23 p.m. Sunday on a report of shots fired. 

The caller reportedly told police they had shot someone who attempted to rob them.
Officers arrived on scene to find an unidentified male with apparent gunshot wounds.
Homicide detectives said the suspect forced his way into the victim's apartment, pulled his gun and disarmed the would-be victim. But the victim and his pregnant fiancé wrestled the gun back and shot the suspect. 

The suspect, identified as Dequan Cummings, of Indianapolis, was pronounced dead at the scene. . . . 

Meanwhile, police are looking for second robbery suspect. Because of the death of the other suspect, the second suspect will face felony murder charges when captured, RTV6's Jack Rinehart reported. . . .

Armed smash and grab cell phone thieves stopped by armed employee

St. Louis has been plagued for years by armed robbers who break into cell phone stores and steal all the cell phones that they can grab. An example from June 2013 is available here.  Here is the police account from a robbery today:

. . . An employee arrived to start work and saw two men in a Mitsubishi Diamante drive into the front glass door of the store. The men then entered the store carrying bags, followed by a third man who had exited a Jeep Cherokee. Once inside the store, the men began to smash out the glass on the counters where cell phones were stored. The employee retrieved a firearm and began shooting at the burglars, hitting one. The trio dropped the bags and ran from the store. The cell phones were all recovered. . . . .

These robberies with the thieves smashing their cars through store windows must be pretty scary.

Concealed handgun permit holder comes to the rescue and stops four people from robbing a man

From WDAZ Channel 8 TV (ABC) in Fargo, North Dakota:

A passer-by with a handgun stopped four people from assaulting and robbing a 36-year-old man Monday afternoon in downtown, according to Fargo police. 

.Lt. Joel Vettel said one of the four knew the victim and lured him behind a building in the 900 block of NP Avenue. There, the man was assaulted, knocked unconscious and robbed of his wallet, Vettel said. 

Police were dispatched to the scene about 12:10 p.m. and learned that the passer-by, who has a license to carry a concealed weapon, brandished his gun to end the robbery, Vettel said. 

All four of the alleged robbers were being held Monday evening at the Cass County Jail. . . .

UPDATED CASES: Perkin, Illinois homeowner shoots a man who was trying to break into his home shortly after midnight (December 31, 2014):

. . .  The homeowner called police about 12:20 a.m. to report an unknown man was trying to get into his house through the back door. Officers found no one at that time.

“The scene was checked thoroughly” for signs of an attempted break-in or other damage to the garage and property, Eeten said. None was found.

About 20 minutes later, the woman in the home called 911. Eeten said he understood that the homeowner shot the purported prowler while she still was on the phone.

The wounded man ran “but didn’t get very far,” Eeten said. . . .

Memphis, Tennessee homeowner kills home invader who forced way into home (December 24, 2014):

. . . Officers responded to a home in the 2300 block of Devoy at about 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, where they saw 22-year-old Nico Carlisle with multiple gunshot wounds lying at the front door. Officials pronounced Carlisle dead at the scene. 

Investigators say Carlisle and another man knocked on the door, then forced their way inside when a woman answered the door. Carlisle then put a gun to the woman’s neck. 

The homeowner grabbed a handgun before going to investigate the commotion, and fired multiple shots at the men, hitting Carlisle. . . . 

The TV news segment makes it clear that the homeowner will not be charged in this case.

Oklahoma City Pastor kills man who breaks into his home (December 22, 2014):

. . . The pastor's son called 911 around 3:15 Saturday afternoon and told dispatchers someone broke into their home in the 2400 block of Moulton Dive and his father shot them. . . .

According to the church's web site, Vineyard has been a pastor at Windsor Hills since 2007. The church is known as a staunch supporter of gun rights and has faced criticism for training youth to use firearms. 

A warning on Vineyard's front door that reads “Nothing on this property is worth your life” seemed to send a clear message to anyone questioning his conviction. . . . 

“If somebody is in the residence like that, they feel threatened they or their family feel threatened, they do have the right to defend themselves,” explained Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow, with the Oklahoma City Police Department. . . .

Jefferson County homeowner kills intruder inside his rural home (December 12, 2014):

. . . The shooting happened in the 26300 block of Clear View Drive about 8:30 a.m. near Rockland Community Church and Ralston Elementary School, north of Genesee.
The identities of the homeowner and the intruder were not immediately released. Both were adult men, the sheriff’s office said. It’s unclear how the intruder forced his way into the home.
A Sheriff’s Office spokesman said preliminary the case could fall under the “Make my Day” law. He added the homeowner ran to a neighbor’s house after the shooting and 911 was called from there. . . .

Hardinsburg, Indiana homeowner shoots man who breaks through front door at 1 AM (November 25, 2014):

. . . It was just after 1 a.m. when, according to Indiana State Police Sgt. Philip Hensley, a masked man carrying a knife broke into a Hardinsburg home . . . 

Two brothers, Barry and Terah Frost heard the commotion.  They moved their 86-year-old mother into a bedroom to protect her and went downstairs to investigate.  They found only the broken front door police say Jacob Grimes, 23, of Paoli, had forced his way in." 

The brothers got some tools out, a flashlight, a drill. They're gonna fix the door. Barry goes to open the cellar door and he looks down and sees feet," Hensley said. 

He says Grimes, armed with a knife began attacking Barry Frost, punching him repeatedly.  Grimes was on top of Barry when Terah shot him in the back three times with a handgun.  Hensley says under Indiana law the men acted within their rights."He's already attacked one homeowner. What's to say he's not going to take the knife and attempt to kill all three residents?" he said, adding the situation was "a tragedy." 

Police say the homeowners and the suspect did not know each other and they did not live close either.  The suspect, Jacob Grimes, would have had to travel 16 miles from where he lived in Paoli to the home police say he broke into.  Police are still investigating how he chose that home and how he got there, but they say, it appears to be random. . . .

Meonominee, Michigan homeowner defends himself again three men, kills one (November 14, 2014):

. . . According to the Eagle Herald out of Marinette - Menominee he is 19-year-old Hayden Gagnon of Pulaski. 
Police say Gagnon was shot by the home's owner. Two other men, Matthew Franjose and Thomas Hartman, both of Green Bay, were arrested in connection with the case. 
The homeowner does not face charges. . . 

Colorado Springs woman shoots to death man trying to break into her home (November 2, 2014):

. . . Police received a call just after midnight about a burglary in progress with shots fired. When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound.  Eduardo Gonzalez-Ortiz, 32, died at the hospital.
"She said she just heard some crashing, and got up and saw that this guy was climbing through her window," said homeowner Linda Orist of her tenant.
Orist said her tenant was upset and shaken up but was relived she was OK.
"She was upset that she had to kill someone to protect herself," said Orist.
Orist said the man initially tried to get in through the back door. When he was unsuccessful, Orist said he broke a window with a brick and tried to climb in.
"She warned him that she had a gun and to go away but he, I don't know, for whatever reason, he kept coming, and she shot a warning shot into the wall and he kept coming so she had to shoot him twice," said Orist. . . .

Gainesville, Texas homeowner fatally shoots man who broke into his home at 2 AM (October 28, 2014):

. . . the home invasion happened inside a home in the 1100 block of Hillcrest Boulevard about 2 A.M. The suspect is identified as 20-year-old Dakota Ray Huckaby of Gainesville.
Belva McClinton with Gainesville police says the homeowner told officers over the phone he had shot the intruder.
"Officers did arrive on scene and located a male laying in the backyard of the residence," said McClinton. "He succumbed to his injuries, so they did not transport from the scene."
Family members at the residence didn't wish to speak to the media, but they told us that the homeowner is the father of a 9-year-old boy, and he made the choice he felt necessary to protect his household--a decision that locals say they understand. . . .

Sarasota, Florida homeowner shoots armed man who breaks into home at 6 AM (October 21, 2014):

A father says he was forced to shoot and kill a burglar in order to protect himself and his son Tuesday morning.  The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said the intruder, identified as Calvin Yoder, broke into their home in the 2100 block of Ernie Shank Court just before 6 a.m.  

Homeowner Christopher Bane called 911 to report the break-in. He said he was home alone with his 11-year-old son when he heard the intruder, so he grabbed his gun and walked out to confront him.   

As he did so, deputies said Yoder fired shots his way. Bane fired back, and during the hallway shootout, Yoder was killed."Apparently the homeowner has been a victim of burglary recently, and so he was on alert. He was on edge," said Sarasota County Sheriff's Spokesperson Wendy Rose. "And as soon as he heard glass breaking, he armed himself to protect himself and his 11-year-old child, who was in the home." . . .

Lumberton, NC grandfather uses gun to stop armed rapist who was attacking teen granddaughter (October 21, 2014):

A grandfather shot back and is believed to have killed a suspect in a home-invasion and attempted rape of his teen granddaughter on Monday night, Robeson County Sheriff's officials said. 

The grandfather was also shot – but  he also managed to shoot the 2 other suspects in the home-invasion and attempted rape, said Maj. Anthony Thompson with the Robeson County Sheriff's Office. 

The incident started around 10 pm at a house on Yedda Road in Lumberton on Monday night when someone knocked on the home of the grandfather, his wife and their 19-year-old granddaughter, according to the sheriff's office. 

Two of three men – all wearing black clothes, ski masks and gloves -- stormed into the house and demanded money, officials said. . . .

Omaha, Nebraska homeowner shoots, kills intruder (September 8, 2014):

 . . . Police were still on the scene in the Woodbridge Neighborhood hours after being called around 9 a.m.Police said the homeowner, Larry Rohatsch, told them he went to answer the front door after someone rang the doorbell and a man was standing inside the home. That’s when the homeowner opened fire, police said.
A neighbor said the intruder kicked in the homeowner’s door. . . .
The homeowner’s 4-year-old daughter was also home at the time of the shooting, police said. . . .
"I think everyone should have a gun and be ready to defend themselves, and if someone's in your house, I think you have every right to defend your home and your loved ones and shoot them if you have to," [neighbor Ann Gray] said.
In the last 6 months, six burglaries have been reported in the neighborhood and the neighborhood just to the west of 78th Street. . . . 

80-year-old homeowner kills intruder and scares off accomplish 

A Long Beach homeowner has no regrets after shooting and killing a woman who said she was pregnant after he got into a confrontation with her and another man who were ransacking his sprawling home.
Tom Greer, an 80-year-old retiree, arrived to his upscale Bixby Knolls neighborhood Tuesday night to find a couple in the middle of a late-night break-in.
"When I went in there, they tackled me," Greer told NBC4 Wednesday. "Both of them jumped up on top of me."The intruders, a man and woman, may have underestimated Greer, he said, as they ransacked his safe and yanked the door open right in front of him.The intruders threw Greer to the ground, but they didn't know he'd gotten his .22-caliber Smith and Wesson revolver. . . .

Concealed carry permit holder stops mall robbery by three teen robbers

From WDTN in Dayton, Ohio about an attempted robbery on Monday, December 22nd:

. . . According to police, three juvenile males from Middletown approached two adult males outside the Dayton Mall around 10:00 a.m. Saturday. They say one of the juveniles produced a gun and demanded merchandise from the adult males. Police say one of the males, who had a valid concealed carry weapon permit, pulled out a gun of his own and shot the teen who had the gun. That teen, identified as Jawaad Jabbar, 16, died from a single gunshot wound. . . . 

Police say the two groups did not know each other and the only motive known is that of aggravated robbery to gain control of another’s property. 

Sgt. Jay Phares said the teen didn’t make it to the mall in time to get in line for the shoes.  “This was a random act of ‘I want something that person has and I’m going to take it from them by any means’,” said Sgt. Phares. 

Two juveniles with the victim are in juvenile detention.  They are not charged pending further investigation.  Police are investigating whether they too had weapons. . . .

St. Louis: Jewelry Store Owner Uses Gun to stop three armed men

Here is a dramatic story from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

. . . Police said there were three men, and that they had entered Robinson Jewelry Co. at 6497 Chippewa Street to rob the store. One man, wearing military fatigues with his face uncovered, waited to be buzzed in, Leyshock said. When he did, he jumped the counter with his arm covering his face. The men were armed with two handguns and a rifle, and one of them smashed a display case, he said. 

But the owner somehow escaped from the store, fired his own gun outside, and the men fled. They didn’t escape with any jewelry, police said. 

“With the shots fired, they didn’t want to stick around to see what else he was selling,” Leyshock said. 

Police said it was not clear if any of the suspects had been shot. Blood was found in the car, but a suspect may have been cut by the shattered display case, Leyshock said. . . . .

Dramatic story where burglary victims catch criminals two days after crime, concealed carry

Two days after their home was robbed, victims of a home break-in catch the alleged burglars and held them at gunpoint until authorities could arrive.  Both the wife and husband of the family that caught the criminals appear to be concealed carry permit holders.  From WBRC Channel 6 TV in Warrior, Alabama:

. . . A home surveillance system captured video of the suspects breaking into the Wyatt family home on Gobbler Knob Road on Friday afternoon. 

The surveillance video shows a woman knocking on the family's home. 

When no one answered, a male accomplice kicked the door open. The woman and two men helped themselves to two TVs and several of the family's Christmas presents, including gifts for their 1-year old-son. 

The three suspects then drove away in a black Ford Ranger pickup truck.Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies responded to the Wyatts' home around 9:30 p.m. Friday to investigate the burglary. 

Two days later, around 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, deputies investigated a second burglary, this one in the 1600 block of New Bethel School Road. 

The victim said someone forced open the door to his home and stole a computer monitor, trumpet, knife collection and jewelry, according to Chief Deputy Randy Christian. 

While deputies were still on the scene investigating the second burglary, the Wyatts called the sheriff's office to say they had found the suspects who broke into their home and were holding them at gunpoint. . . .
