Missouri concealed handgun permits length goes from 3 to 5 years

Missouri increases the length of permits from 3 to 5 years at the same time Missouri Sheriffs are taking over the issuing of permits.  This will have a noticeable impact on the number of permits issued.  I wouldn't be surprised if that single change increases the number of permits by any place by 30 to 40 percent.
Ready or not, more than 100 sheriffs across the state will be taking over responsibility of issuing concealed carry weapons permits starting Aug. 28.
That’s because the Missouri Department of Revenue has been stripped of its role as the agency endorsing permits. . . .
There have been a lot of problems with the Missouri Department of Revenue over permits.
"Missourians lost a lot of trust with our Missouri government with the department of motor vehicle when all the names were released. And I think with it going to the Sheriff's office it's going to be a lot more trustworthy," Capp said.
That may be the reason more people are now applying for permits, applications have skyrocketed at the Marion County sheriff's office.
"Approximately a year or so ago, we were averaging approximately 12 to 15 CCW's a month, now we're averaging close to 50 or 60 a month," Marion County Sheriff Jimmy Shinn said. . . .
