How to measure the US success in the Olympics?

Results as of earlier today
The best way to measure the success that a country has is in terms of Medals per Capita, not total medals.

If we are to measure Olympic success by this standard, shouldn't team sports be counted as a medal for each team member? That would give a more accurate measure of population per medal. For example, a medal in soccer requires 18 Olympic-class athletes, vice an individual swimming medal requiring only one athlete.
