Hardball union politics

Here is an interesting segment from Fox News. A river boat switches to not using unionized workers. In response, congressional Dems switch positions. Previously they had supported not having safety regulations will shutdown the boat. Now they want to make it so that the boat can no longer carry passengers at night.

Unions have morphed into nothing less than extortion rackets that exact 50-100% more than the market would dictate for wages in addition to costly health, retirement and fringe benefits that far outstrip the free market.

I have a client who pays his dump truck drivers $17.00 per hour. On public works projects, he must pay the prevailing union wage. On these jobs, those same drivers with their same trucks and doing the same job must be paid $27.00 per hour.

So who is footing the bill you ask?

You and me.

The text seems to read that the Dems are going against the unions, which I doubt is correct. Also, the video link is to a story on the Brittany Spears / Keven Federline custody settlement.
