Finland: "Gun ownership high, violence low"

the Finns could of course considder the murder and suicide rates in the neighbouring nations of Russia, Latvia and Lithuania, where between 50 and 70 years of Police state controls removed legally held handguns.

Interestingly if we add the former Soviet Republics of Ukraine and Baelarus to the list we have the five highest murder and Suicide rates on the planet.

Perhaps if the Finns would like to remember their war of independence, the Winter War and the Continuation War, they too could have had that level of gun control so much earlier together with their share of the 40 odd million murders perpetrated by Stalin and a continuing share of the former soviet Republics' murder and Suicide levels.

Mass public shootings are a trajedy, but that is no reason not to tell the truth.

Gun ownership and marksmanship in Finland has prevented millions of murders in the 20th century and continues to prevent hundreds more each year in the 21st.

Ps
Just got my copy of Freedomnomics ordered through the local bookshop here in Ireland. Really enjoying it.

Speaking to my old man , aparently one of his farming neighbours has just got home from 2 months in hospital after falling through a shed roof (the guy is over 70 and suffered multiple broken ribs, broken colar bone etc).

His coming home present from Durham Constabulary was a visit to take his licenced guns away from him...

Life in the fourth world eh?

Thanks, Keith. Your comments on Finland is very useful. Thanks also for getting the copy of Freedomnomics. Reviews are always appreciated! Sorry about your dad, though I am not sure that I understand why your father's injuries should cause him to lose his licensed guns.

Hi John,
Thanks. I should have made it clearer, it was a neighbour of my father's, fortunately the cops haven't come to take his guns away -yet...

It has happened to several friends and neighbours over the past few years.

With unbridled economic liberalism exposing its shortcomings and with 10 dead and dozens injured in another trigger-happy bloodfest in Finland, your thesis seems to be rather undermined this week.
