Chicago has most murders of any city in the country

What is important is the murder rate, but Chicago clearly has not only more murders, but a higher rate than other large cities. Chicago CBS2 has this story:

Chicago Beats New York, Los Angeles In Murders
Police Supt. Jody Weis To Take Hot City Council Hot Seat

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Chicago is the Second City in nickname and the third in population, but when it comes to murder, the city has the dubious distinction of being second to no city in America.

As CBS 2's Mike Puccinelli reports, the Chicago Sun-Times pointed out on Friday that Chicago has seen 426 homicides this year through Tuesday, compared with 417 in New York and 302 in Los Angeles.

At the end of 1998, Chicago made international headlines as the U.S. "murder capital" after surpassing New York's homicide totals for the first time ever. Chicago shed that dubious distinction when murders plummeted over the last decade.

There are more than 8 million people in New York, compared to slightly under 3 million in Chicago. The population of Los Angeles exceeds that of Chicago by more than 800,000. . . .

And do they not have the most restrictive gun control laws next to Washington DC?

Wow! That Obama has really done such a great job while in the Chicago senate.

Just imagine what he'll do for the rest of U.S.

There was an article a while back that Chicago was not only the Murder Captiol of the US, but was actually more dangerous to Americans then Iraq is to US soldiers....
... I keep thinking someone should ask Obama if he has an exit strategy to get us out of the quagmire that is costing American lives every day. Maybe we can give Chicago back to the Natives?

John,
Why don't you move to Chicago and get shot?

John did live there for a time, and seemed to do fine. May be the doctor(Mr Anonymous) should take his own medicine?

Well, clearly that's an unsubstantiated report as no-one authoritative takes it seriously. Utterly absurd ROFL!

Nearly as many US troops die in Iraq as people get murdered in Chicago - Chicago has 25 times as many people. Do the math.

Chicago has 25 times as many people as Iraq? You are kidding, right? Iraq has a population of around 29 million. Chicago's population is around 3 million. What kind of math do you use?

Dude, did you read Jeffrey's comment?

US troops stationed in Iraq barely get into six digits - Chicago is almost three million. We were comparing the murder rate in Chicago to US troop deaths from hostilities in Iraq, not the entire population of that country.

I could infer from that since they are so out numbered, it should be a lot worse. :) I wasn't commenting on Jeffrey, but anonymous. I guess you have a point, but his wording wasn't as concise as it could have been. I would think that we had what, 160K there at one point? 25x is a little high. I am surprised John hasn't jumped in on this one.

Hey, 13 year old, John McCain was a tortured POW for 5 years, and served courageously throughout his entire stint in the military. Very few Americans have the war record that McCain has. And, oh yeah, he can't raise his hands because his Vietnamese tormentors permanently damaged both his arms. What does Obama's war record look like? The same as yours.
