Yet another example of why it can pay to be able to fire many bullets in self defense

Here is a homeowner who faced to armed men breaking into his home at 12:30 AM.  A total of 30 shots were fired.  Limiting this homeowner to 7 or 10 shots might have been the difference between life and death.  As I have pointed out before, this type of case is not that uncommon.  From KHOU in Houston, Texas:

. . . The homeowner told authorities he was sleeping when two men kicked in his front door. 

According to investigators, the homeowner grabbed his pistol and began firing shots at the criminals from the top of the stairs. 

"It's our understanding he was quite scared and terrified, in fear of his life. He discharged his weapon, and as they retreated, they shot back," said Assistant Chief Mark Herman with Harris County Precinct 4. 

The men reportedly fired repeatedly at the homeowner before they fled in a 2015 Dodge pickup. 

Deputies said no one was hurt, despite more than two dozen shots being unloaded. 

"I don't know what to expect next," said neighbor Dale Bahn. "There's a lot of people that have guns in their homes. In this area, there are several gun owners and a gun club." . . .

Kent County, Michigan Jewelers fend off four robbers who try to rob their store

This seems like an obvious case when you have four robbers where it would be useful to have a sizable magazine in your gun.  From MLive:

For the second time in four years, Paul Medawar Fine Jewelry has thwarted a robbery attempt – this time, apparently leaving at least one of the robbers with gunshot wounds. . . .
Police said two people inside Medawar shot at the robbers, who fled after breaking into a jewelry case. Police believed that at least one suspect had been shot, but that hasn't been confirmed.
Witnesses reported the unnamed victims of the robbery had fired shots at the robbers, injuring at least one of them.  . . . .
During a robbery on Oct. 5, 2010, Paul Medawar secretly called police when robbers came in the store.
That day, he dialed 911 on his office phone, triggering a police response that left robbers rushing out of his store. He spoke briefly to a dispatcher before a robber found him and told him to hang up.
He and his son, David, and a store manager, were told to lie on the floor after he opened a safe containing diamonds. . . .
The robbers fled quickly from that 2010 robbery, then crashed a stolen Jeep into a nearby condominium.
"The police got my (911) call. When the robbers left, the police were outside in the parking lot," Medawar said. . . .

Criminals mess with the wrong mom: "Mom [with an "assault" rifle] opens fire on home invaders in Detroit to defend children"

This mother of two young children did what she could to protect her family.  Apparently, it wasn't the first time that the family has been robbed.  From WXYZ TV:

A Detroit mother opened fire Monday night when three suspects broke into her home. Surveillance cameras caught it all.
The mother tells 7 Action News she "didn't have time to get scared." When she heard the door to her home on Woodrow Wilson being kicked in, she immediately warned the three teenage intruders and then opened fire.
One of the teens dropped a handgun on his way out the door. He then tried to get back inside the house a second time, but was again met with gunfire. Once again, he took off and all three were arrested shortly after the incident by Detroit Police.
Recalling the panic she felt, the mom says "I let them know I had a gun once they were in the house. They said no you don't so I shot off the first round. I wasn't feeling anything at the moment, I got scared afterwards." . . .

I am really beginning to like Detroit's police chief.

Now Detroit's Chief of Police is responding to the dramatic footage and the mother's actions.
"She did the right thing" says Chief James Craig acknowledging the mother gave a verbal warning prior to firing the weapon.
As we first reported, the mother was protecting two small children inside the home. . . . 

Woman shoots multiple times the attacker who broke into her home

Here is a defensive gun use from Highland, Illinois.  From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

A 55-year-old woman shot an intruder multiple times early this morning after the man allegedly pushed his way into her apartment and began assaulting the woman and her sister, according to police. . . . 

The woman told police that the man began to assault her and her 47-year-old sister. She said she pleaded with the man to stop and get out of the apartment. 

"When he failed to comply, she shot him multiple times with a small derringer" pistol, Bell said. 

Bell said the man was shot in the living room area of the apartment. Both women were treated at the scene and released. . . . 

Police confiscated the derringer that Bell referred to as "old school."

10 Defensive Gun Uses in December 2012 where victims had to fire a lot of shots in self defense

There are a lot of cases where victims face multiple attackers.  Here are just some of the cases from December 2012.  When I read through these cases it was clear to me that there were seven cases that involved a large number of defensive shots fired.

While it's not popular to say, gun control worked in all three of the tragedies. In each case the guns were stolen, not legally owned - showing yet again that gun control laws only affect the law abiding. Now the push for a revised Assault Weapons Ban is in full force including a law limiting magazines to 10 rounds of ammunition. Nobody could ever need more than 10 rounds, right? I mean, who was ever attacked by multiple armed people at once? 

Christmas Eve (Nevada) Police report "a multitude of gunfire" as four home invaders attack a couple and their newborn. 

December 3rd (California) A homeowner fights back as three armed men attempt a home invasion robbery. 

December 23rd (California) During a sleepover for his daughters friends, a homeowner fights back against multiple armed intruders. 

December 4th (North Carolina) Confronted by two armed robbers, store manager fights back. 

December 6th (California) An elderly man is attacked by three youths vandalizing his property. 

December 15th (Ohio) Homeowner fights back against four intruders. One intruder is killed in the gunfight. 

December 14th (Georgia) Four home invaders attack... only three leave as man defends family. 

December 19th (Texas) A couple comes home, attacked by intruders waiting inside.  

December 18th (Georgia) One of two home invaders dies jumping out of a window to escape an armed resident. 

December 3rd (Texas) God Bless Texas: Neighbor stops, handcuffs robbers at gunpoint. . . .
