Idaho becomes eighth state to have concealed handguns on college campuses

Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Mississippi, Oregon, Utah, and Wisconsin currently prevent public colleges from banning concealed handguns on college campuses.  With Idaho becoming the eighth state (Governor Butch Otter has already indicated that he will sign the bill), 20 states leave the decision to ban or allow concealed carry weapons on campuses up to each college or university individually.  From Reuters:

Idaho lawmakers on Thursday approved a measure allowing concealed guns to be carried onto university and college campuses.
The legislation, which cleared the state House of Representatives by a 50-19 vote and was overwhelmingly approved by the state Senate last month, now heads to Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter for his signature.
If the Republican governor signs the bill into law as expected, Idaho will be the seventh U.S. state that allows guns on college campuses, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
The passage of the Idaho bill comes amid a tense debate on the extent of gun ownership restrictions in the United States, which has seen a string of recent shootings at schools, movie theaters and other public places. . . .

So how bad is the US job market?

The United States still has 866,000 fewer people employed today than when the recession started, but the working age population as grown by 14 million.  That is a recovery?  There is no comparable recovery.  Since Obama became president there has been a 3.5 million increase in jobs but 12 million new working age people.  In other words, that the increase in jobs equals only 29.2 percent the increase in the working age population.  It gives an idea of how far we are losing ground.

Newest piece at Investor's Business Daily: "Brady Law Has Done Little To Keep Guns Out Of Criminals' Hands"

The Brady Law stops law-abiding Americans, not criminals, from getting guns.  My newest piece at Investor's Business Daily starts this way:

Last Friday marked the 20th anniversary of the so-called Brady Law, a federal gun control in honor of James Brady, Ronald Reagan's former press secretary who was wounded in John Hinckley's assassination attempt.

Since it requires background checks on all guns purchased from federally licensed firearms dealers, gun control advocates celebrated the law's purported effectiveness.
The description by the Capitol newspaper The Hill was typical: "The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, which took effect 20 years ago Friday, has blocked more than 2 million firearm sales, preventing 'countless' killings and other crimes, gun control advocates said at an event to mark the anniversary ... ." 

On Friday, the Brady Campaign claimed that half those blocked from purchasing a gun — over 1 million — were felons. 

Impressive numbers. But, alas, both are gross exaggerations. . . .

11-year-old girl shot and killed a cougar that was stalking her brother, saving her brother's life

An emaciated female cougar apparently was getting closer to humans in her search for food.  The cougar had already been scared off twice from the family's property, but the cougar apparently through that the third time was the charm.  From the New York Daily News:

A quick-thinking Washington state girl bravely grabbed a gun to shoot dead a cougar that was stalking her older brother. 

Shelby White, 11, said she acted instinctively after spotting the skinny predator following Tanner, 14, as he walked back to their rural home in Twisp last Thursday. 

The fearless hunter snatched her rifle, took aim at the deadly beast which was just 10 feet away, and gunned it down — saving her sibling's life. . . .
