The complete video of my appearance on Piers Morgan's CNN show last night

The interview that went from about 9:12 to 9:30 PM ET started off reasonably enough, but it quickly devolved into a mess.  The problems started when Piers began realizing that he was losing the debate.  At that point he started raising his voice and talking over me.

Erik Wemple at the Washington Post has a discussion of the appearance that starts this way:

CNN last night showed a sense of humor as Piers Morgan battled with gun-rights proponent John Lott (“More Guns, Less Crime“) on the fine points of mass shootings and their prevention. A chyron hit the screen repeating a question that Lott had posed:
“Lott: Why am I on?” . . .
Morgan’s high point came at the very end of the segment, when he was bidding adieu to Lott:
MORGAN: Mr. Lott, thank you for joining me again. I look forward to talking to you again about this. As you know, I disagree with you passionately. But I respect your right to have your opinion.
Bolded text added to highlight Morgan’s brilliant linguistic precision. Lott is free to have his opinion, just not express it on his show.

The Blaze has a discussion available here, News Busters available here, and the Washington Times available here
CNN host Piers Morgan on Wednesday repeatedly talked over guest John Lott Jr., who was trying to present and correct several myths and misstatements about gun facts, ultimately telling him: “I’m going to keep talking so I suggest you keep quiet.” . . .

Mr. Lott,

Why do you insist on being on this jerks show when you know he will act this way? Why give Morgans show the credibility that comes with high profile guests?

Never wrestle a pig in mud. You both get dirty and the pig enjoys it.

Piers Morgan is completely insane and disingenuous at the very least, and an idiot is more accurate.

I try to avoid Piers Morgan's "pretend news" shows so that I stay this side of a stroke. I see he's up to the same old stuff. Apparently, not only does he not get scolded for his outrageous behavior he actually gets praised for it in the alternate universe over at CNN. Dr. Lott - you were amazingly calm and, despite Morgan's antics, were able to communicate some really good substance in the little time you were allowed to speak. Real newsmen must be rolling over in their graves at what passes for "news" today!

Dear John - CNN Piers Morgan is the worst report in the World. I guess he couldn't get a good job in the UK.
Keep up the Fight.

I applaud you for continuing your effort to educate this bigoted, fear-mongering sociopath.

Obviously competent interview skills are no longer a prerequisite for hiring CNN hosts. Good job holding your own with a very difficult man with an agenda.

You handled Mr. Anti-America better than anyone I've seen. I found it funny how when you brought out that gun ownership was highest in the 78% of counties that have the lowest gun violence rates.

John,

I appreciate what you are doing to educate America about real gun statistics. I know it isn't easy to get many people to acknowledge the truth.

Keep up the good work.

Anyone who watches Piers Morgan's show more than once has to be numb in the head. The level of immaturity and disrespect I see him direct toward his guests who don't share his same opinion reminds me of an elementary school playground. It's about time we get our Dad to go beat up his Dad!

Dear Mr. Lott,
I am amazed at your ability to remain calm in this situation. Morgan's behavior was unbelievably rude and ridiculous. I don't understand the point of a show where the host spews their venom and avoids any true intelligent discussion of facts and concepts. It's disrespectful to you and to the victims of these shootings when he refuses to engage in thoughtful discussion.

He came off as a fool. His comments at the end were particularly offensive (suggesting that you must not care about victims) and just reinforce the fact that he is completely clueless about the concepts of true cause and effect. I look forward to reading your book.

Best regards to you and your family.

I would never be surprised to find out that Piers Morgan is being paid to bad mouth guns, because being a brit it won't hurt his career like it would an American host, being a sub-human who likes to talk out of his backside,he would never admit he was wrong even if God himself told him so,keep up the good fight and hold strong to the 2nd cause if you lose it you'll never get it back,we lost it in the UK now we're lucky to have an airgun!!

I wish Piers would go walk the streets of Ciudad Juárez some evening. He should feel perfectly safe. After all, guns are banned.

Piers Morgan is a bully.

Perhaps you should approach him the way Ben Shapiro did. He called Morgan out as a bully and was able to slow Morgan down enough to make his points about guns. http://tinyurl.com/adqmcs4

Shapiro wrote a book entitled Bullies: How the Left's Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences Americans. So he knows a bully when he sees one.
