After the election Colorado Gov Hickenlooper changes position on gun control laws

I don't remember Hickenlooper ever even hinting about taking "a couple of months off" to think about gun laws previously.  One wonders whether this change in his position is simply because Democrats picked up control of the state legislature in November.  From the Denver Post:
In a significant shift from his statements earlier this year, Gov. John Hickenlooper now says "the time is right" for Colorado lawmakers to consider further gun restrictions.
The Democratic governor made his comments in an interview with The Associated Press that comes less than half a year after the mass shooting in an Aurora movie theater that killed 12 and injured at least 58. His latest words also follow a shooting in an Oregon mall Tuesday that left three dead, including the gunman, who shot himself.
"I wanted to have at least a couple of months off after the shooting in Aurora to let people process and grieve and get a little space, but ... I think, now ... the time is right," Hickenlooper said in the Wednesday interview. . . .

I have yet to read a news headline that says 'Completely sane man goes on shooting rampage'.

Nor have I heard any politician demand that we improve our Mental Health System. As an individual who has tried to seek help for a loved one who is mentally ill, I have found that if the ill individual does not want treatment, there is not a darn thing that I can do.

Politicians like Hickenlooper will do anything to stay in office or deny us our rights, yet when have they ever supported Mental Health Care reform that could prevent tragedies such as we have seen lately?

I wish I had a simple answer myself as I deal with an ill individual on a daily basis. I wish there were a way to destigmatize mental health care so that folks would feel free to seek help as they would with any physical ailment.

Gun Control rather than treatment? What praytell does that do to prevent anything?

As I was going through a store the other day, I saw a clothing rack with some girls' pajamas for sale. They were fluorescent green, with "Curious George" style, cartoon monkey faces and peace signs on them. I guess that's about where we're at culturally right now. Okay, but when do we move on? Hopefully soon.

I'm sure John Lott is proud of his pro-gun stance now that 20 children are dead. What a nation of heroes, all of them John Wayne's waiting to shoot off pistols and ride off in the sunset. If only they'd do us all a favor and ride off a cliff. Btw, only a complete out-of-touch loser would have aol as their email provider.

Speaking of losers, drhouse, has it ever occured to you that you failed to even address the cause of the deaths of those children?

One mentally ill individual.

Perhaps it is easier for you to attack Dr. Lott rather than have to face reality.
