Should NPR be funded by taxpapers?

Personally, I don't understand why they should be. There are so many news sources, and if the private companies didn't have to compete a government subsidized news outlet, there would be even more private sources. Anyway, here is a surprisingly useful discussion on the issue.

Dear Joe: Are you really serious? NPR and CPB both get about a half of billion dollars from the federal government. Take up the debate with CBS, the WSJ, the NY Times, and others if you really believe that claim.

Markie Marxist sez: "Of course NPR should be funded by taxpayers! They were already supposed to be 100% taxpayer funded, after we had nationalized all the media. NPR was supposed to lead the way, being government funded to begin with, but our Marxist revolution in America is behind schedule. Still, there's hope. My commie compadre, Comrade President Obama, wants to increase funding for NPR."
