"71-year-old Rapid City man chased off a would-be robber"

From the Rapid City Journal:

Armed only with an ice scraper, a 71-year-old Rapid City man chased off a would-be robber who pointed two knives at him early Friday morning, police say.

Talon LaClaire, 20, picked the wrong septuagenarian when, police say, he approached a 71-year-old man scraping off his windshield at about 6 a.m. in the 800 block of LeBlanc Street.

Ignoring LaClaire’s very, large “Rambo-style” knife and a small paring knife, the victim used his ice scraper to fend off LaClaire, according to Rapid City Police Department Sgt. Pete Ragnone

“He’s a real neighborhood hero,” Ragnone said of the courageous senior citizen. “He would not be victimized.”

Apparently frustrated by the resistance he encountered, LaClaire retreated into the nearby home of his girlfriend.

Police officers entered the home and arrested the suspect without incident.

LaClaire is in the Pennington County Jail facing charges of attempted first- degree robbery and aggravated assault/domestic violence for the incident.

The unidentified victim was not injured in the altercation, according to a news release. . . . .
