Gun control groups' letter to college and university administrators

The Buckeye Firearms Association has a discussion of a letter supposedly being sent around to college and university administrations. The discussion is here. A link to an actual copy of the letter is here.

There is a link to the letter at the bottom of the article. The name of the person to whom it was sent was redacted.

I have owned, handled, cleaned, fired weapons for most of my life. I served in the military, and at the age of eighteen, carried, fired, and cleaned automatic weapons. During my time in the service, if I went to War, I was expected to defend my country, and kill people (the enemy).

I had to qualify with my weapon. I had to know my weapon. I had to take care of my weapon. I was responsible for my weapon, and I was only eighteen years old.

If it was okay by the Government for one such as I, at the age of eighteen, to do so, why cannot college students also have that right and responsibilty as well? If I am responsible enough to defend my Country at such a young age, why cannot those who attend college defend themselves, and those around them...

The letter is disingenuous to say the least.

Here in Utah, it is true that SOME students can carry firearms on state university campuses. But only those students who have a concealed carry permit, which requires that they be at least 21, undergo training, and pass a background check. The letter would have you believe that all students can have firearms.

It also gravely misstates the Utah law regarding carrying firearms onto private property.

What rubbish!
