Defend yourself at your own risk in the UK
A shopkeeper could face a murder charge following a fatal struggle with a knife-wielding raider.
Tony Singh fought back when Liam Kilroe, a career criminal, ambushed him in his car after closing time.
Kilroe, who was trying to steal Mr Singh's takings, staggered away with a stab wound from his own knife and died in a pool of blood.
The 25-year-old was on the run after being charged with two robberies.
Police called to the scene found Mr Singh in a state of shock, still sitting in his car and nursing serious knife wounds to his back, face and neck.
However, the officers arrested the 34-year-old and are preparing to send a file to the Crown Prosecution Service.
A murder charge would carry a life sentence on conviction.
The case resembles that of Tony Martin who was charged with murder after shooting Fred Barras, 16, during a raid on his Norfolk farm in 1999.
He was convicted of manslaughter and served three years in prison. . . .

Let us hope that the CPS have the sense to spare this brave man from the horror of going to court.
Even if it does get to court, I would hope that there are not more than 5 criminals on the jury.
I'm not likely to end up on jury service, but a jury would be well within its rights to tell the judge that there is no case to answer and to compel him to dismiss the case.
This reminds me of an event in the 1980's when a pair of scum bags armed themselves with swords and tried to rob a sub post office somewhere near Newcastle.
The postmaster was also called Singh ("Lion"). He promptly disarmed the first raider and the second fled after a couple of seconds.
As a Sikh, Mr Singh had trained in traditional sword craft and whether he used a broom shank or a rolled up newspaper, the two young muppets were no match at all for him.
As yet another digression... Sikhs who follow their faith closely, are required to go armed with a sword and dagger, and to be proficeint in their use, even if that sword and dagger are now frequently miniatures worn as an emblem allong with the turban.
Wow... The state of affairs in Britain when it comes to self-defense is just sickening. God help you if you fight back against an attacker and wind up hurting or worse, killing the poor criminal. There's been a decided lack of common sense among those in charge over there for quite some time. It's bad enough that this poor man was almost killed by a scumbag with a knife, but now his own government is threatening to take away his freedom because he fought for survival and won. Absolutely unconscionable.
