Second Grade Student Suspended for Drawing Stick Figure With Gun
Kyle Walker, 7, was suspended last week for violating Dennis Township Primary School's zero-tolerance policy on guns, the boy's mother, Shirley McDevitt, told The Press of Atlantic City.
Kyle gave the picture to another child on the school bus, and that child's parents complained about it to school officials, McDevitt said. Her son told her the drawing was of a water gun, she said. . . . .

The bliss-ninny zero-tolerance reaction to some tender-aged student drawing a picture which includes a gun is completely STUPID! Any young child is going to emulate what they have seen on TV, in the movies, or in video games. To suspend a Second Grader for such childish, yet NORMAL behavior runs the risk of making that impressionable child afraid of doing anything brave.
Then they wonder why no one charged the shooter in the Virginia Tech attack. "They" are making America a nation of cowards!
I'm glad I send my daughter to private school. Not only does her school not over react to things like this, some of her class work (she is in first grade) actually shows pictures of a gun (as an example of what begins with the letter "G"). She recently brought home a paper that was part of a reading exercise and the story was about a guy that went on an elk hunt. One of the questions was "Bill used a (fill in the blank) to hunt", and the correct answer was "gun."
