Tennessee Bill to Let Permit Holders Carry Concealed Handguns in Parks Dies
Sounds reasonable to me. After all, CCW promoters keep telling us they are the safest, most law-abiding people in the whole state of Tennessee. If families in state parks would be safer with CCW guns around, so would our elected officials, right? What's the big deal?
Apparently it's a big deal to the bill's sponsor, Sen. Tim Burchett (R-Knoxville). He withdrew his bill rather than allow it to pass with the amendment.

This has all the earmarks of having been a "killer amendment," designed to sink the bill if put to a floor vote. The story doesn't go into much detail, but it wouldn't surprise me if the sponsor withdrew the bill to avoid floor defeat. There might be a tactical/parliamentary reason for that, relevant to the TN legislative process. Perhaps this gives him more options than if it had been defeated on the floor?
It's my understanding that it's not dead yet(parks carry bill)
TFALAC Alert says:
Rep. Bell rolled HB 132 (Allows Handgun permits in WMA's) to next Wednesday for the reasons I mentioned in a previous e-mail of not having support in the budget committee due to the fiscal note. He is trying to give the TWRA some time to see it they can somehow get it into their budget before next Wednesday. Keep the calls going and also call the TWRA and thank them for supporting this bill and also ask them to do whatever it takes to get the Fiscal Note of this bill adsorbed into the TWRA budget.
