The long term trend towards the greening of Europe. A big change was occurring long before the environmental movement.

Earth Day was on April 22, 1970.  Here are some pictures that show how green Europe was before and after 1970.  It appears to me that there was at least as much of a change towards becoming green between 1900 and 1970 versus the period after Earth Day from 1970 to 2010.
