People waiting in long lines to register guns in Connecticut with only one week left before new laws go into effect
There are only five more days until the new gun laws go into effect for our state, that means a dash to register assault weapons or high capacity magazines.
A long line of people stood outside of the Public Safety Building in Middletown all day Thursday to register firearms.
Specifically, anything the state considers an assault weapon or a high capacity magazine must be registered before Jan. 1, 2014.
"If they were trying to make them illegal, I'd have a real issue, but if they want to just know where they are, that's fine with me," said Charles Gillette, who was registering magazines.
"I understand why they're doing it, but I don't think it's constitutional," said Scott Boccio, who was registering guns. . . .
None of the people Eyewitness News spoke with thinks this is going to reduce gun violence. They believe it's only hurting law abiding citizens.
"If people are going to do things illegally, they're not going to be here registering their gun," said Jared Krajewski, who was registering guns. . . .

I'm going to predict that those folks are going to regret their registration before it's all over. Another "progressive" group in power at the state or national level and there will be a knock at the door to take those "dangerous" and (then) "illegal" weapons away for our "safety". I no longer have ANY faith in our "leaders" in government.
We have a right to bear arms, unless the government comes up with a way to trump that? Who knew!
"What do you mean, I had to register my rifle?"
"Your papers are not in order, Comrade. You must come with us."
These people are being tremendously foolish and naive. Time and time again, history shows that registration almost always leads to confiscation. Fear the government that fears your guns.
Hmmm...couldn't find a picture or video of those "long lines". I wonder if this is like the "act before midnight to get this amazing deal" TV advertisement. The "long lines" buying new guys is evidenced by the NICS uptick since Dec12, which was higher Jan-Nov 2013 than Jan-Dec 2012, without the usual Dec upswing. We might expect the registration rate to be no greater than elsewhere - that is, a small fraction of owners. http://reason.com/archives/2012/12/22/gun-restrictions-have-always-bred-defian

Dear MaverickNH:
The NICS checks in December 2012 and January 2013 were at record levels. The fact that NICS checks have gone up even further from that is actually pretty astounding.
