Obama blames Republican deregulation moves for problems and then claims he is the real deregulator
Does anyone else see the tension in Obama's remarks here? Obama's remarks on the economy in Cleveland, Ohio on Thursday are available at the White House website.
During that decade, there was a specific theory in Washington about how to meet this challenge. . . . We were told that fewer regulations -- especially for big financial institutions and corporations -- would bring about widespread prosperity. . . . That’s what we were told. So how did this economic theory work out? . . .
I have approved fewer regulations in the first three years of my presidency than my Republican predecessor did in his. And I’m implementing over 500 reforms to fix regulations that were costing folks too much for no reason. . . .
