PETA goes after Palin again
Politico has the story. The PETA link is here. The bizarre thing is that these animal nuts don't realize that hunting stabilizes animal populations and prevents the large animal starvations that occur in nature.
Additional Note: Some of those making comments have pointed out that hunting also provides food, just as getting meat from a grocery store does. PETA obviously views both as bad. My point is solely that in terms of what I understand the logic of PETA to be -- if you want to reduce overall suffering to animals, hunting helps accomplish this.
During the holiday season, PETA posted an online game that involves pelting the (moose-hunting) Alaska governor with snowballs, urging internet users to "help make the holidays safe for animals by fighting back against notorious animal abusers."
(In the game, we should mention, Palin is bikini-clad and wearing a fur coat.) . . .

A childish response to someone that they fear.
Somehow, I do not see PETA labeling carnivores as animal abusers. Yes, we humans did destabilize the natural order of things, and we are responsible to restore that order.
If Alaskans, or any other americans in these tough times rely on game for food to feed their family, what is the problem? If we fail to do so, overpopulation is the end result.
Perhaps starvation of the animals would better suit PETA's needs?
Funny, I was just looking at a website called Petakillsanimals.com. Was Palin in a fur bikini by chance?
I have to say that I think hunting is a pretty ghastly activity, and the idea that we should hunt majestic animals for sport is only slightly more repellent than "we're really doing the animal a favor" argument that you just forwarded, Dr. Lott. I think that the ownership of guns is an entitlement that goes far beyond the so-called "sportsmanship" of hunters (as though the animal ever had a chance..), and this is the weakest argument that we gun rights advocates have. We should stop making excuses for hunters, and recognize this unwarranted slaughter for what it us.
R.H. needs to wake up a bit. It's Hunters who keep varmints from overgrowth in population so that Farmers can be more successful. In addition, most hunters augment their families food supplies by what they hunt. My young cousin and his wife who live in populated NJ live on deer meat all winter. Yet NJ limits hunting so much that deer carcasses abound on NJ roads and highways!

Most hunters don't hunt purely for sport. After the hunt, the animal is converted to food.
Unless you are a vegan or are under the assumption that your meat/food products come from their 'natural' habitats already wrapped in plastic at the grocery meat counter, then you must understand that any wild animal has more of a 'chance' than one who's sole purpose is to be slaughtered and made into food.
White tail deer kill more Americans every year than do Bears, gators, and cougars. Not to mention the cost of vehicle repairs due to auto/deer collisions.
As for myself, I too am a member of PETA. People Eating Tasty Animals.
Regulated hunting is an necessity to control animal population, as well as to provide food for many.
Soylent Green, anyone?
