How Do You Register a Firearm in the District?
I am not sure that the rules for registering a handgun will be the same as those for a rifle or shotgun, but here are the current rules.

How Do I Register a Firearm in the District?
To register a fiream, residents must report to the
Firearms Registration Section of the Metropolitan Police
Department, located at 300 Indiana Avenue, NW. The appli-
cation process may take up to 14 days. The cost for register-
ing each firearm is $13, plus $35 to process fingerprints.
Applicants must:
Be 21 years of age
Complete a firearms application
Bring proof of residency (e.g., D.C. Driver’s License)
Bring two (2) passport-sized front facing photos
Be fingerprinted
Pass a 20-question multiple choice test
Complete a notarized firearms eligibility statement

For a long gun? How pointlessly governmental. I'm glad I don't live in DC. I feel even more sorry for those who have to live there.
Then when you actually need a gun the goons can come and take it away.
Registration is just a precursor to confiscation.
I've been there: I had to take my P38 and Ruger Mk1 to the Cop shop in 1997 '98.
Result:
Britain's figures for death and serious injury by shooting have rocketted in the ten years since.
What about getting a CCW license? The supreme court statement did have this quote:
"long-standing prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms."
That somewhat implies to me that CCW is supported but regulation as to where are "ok" I'd love to hear some other opinions on that (although obviously it only really becomes clear once a legal precedent is set)

Seems Josh Sugarmann, head of Violence Policy Center in DC. Looks like he will make a killing on sales.
I thought they hated free markets, and guns. I guess it must be the captive market that makes it ok.
