The Foundations that brought you Obamacare are banding together to bring you Gun Control

The resources for these organizations will swamp those of the NRA.  The studies that they fund and the ads that they finance will also be much more openly received by the media.  Bringing these foundations together may be the biggest advance towards gun control in my lifetime.  Imagine the resourcees of 50 Joyce Foundations.
The White House on Tuesday afternoon reached out to major philanthropic foundations not typically associated with gun control to gauge how much they are willing to get involved in President Obama’s future gun violence prevention efforts, according to a person on the call.
The call, which featured Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Jonathan Greenblatt, the director of the White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation, and members of Vice President Biden’s staff, was largely a “listening session,” according to the person on the call, who represents a foundation invited to participate.
The person said the call included the Open Society Institute, the McCormick Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the California Endowment. Those groups, which traditionally work in public health fields, have not previously been identified with major gun control efforts. . . .
“There’s only one reason why you get a bunch of deep-pocketed funders on the phone,” the participant said. “It’s not because they’re great dancers. It’s because at the end of the day you need to tap into them for something.” . . .
There is also the claim that the Obama administration is working with WalMart and other businesses to push for government monitoring on the private transfer of guns.

If true, these moves point to a really serious battle coming up.

UPDATE: Michael Bloomberg is giving another $350 million to Johns Hopkins.  The money will go to financial aid to students and public health issues, including gun violence research.
Hopkins, in return, has become something of a brain trust for Mr. Bloomberg, shaping his approach to issues like cigarette smoking, gun violence and obesity. . . .

It looks as if they're lending validity to to a lot of "conspiracy theory" advocates. Is it really going to be that easy to strip us of our ability to defend ourselves? It's downright surreal. Preppers are starting to look a lot more rational (to me, at least). Won't there be a tremendous backlash? God I hope so. Do you think that the MAJORITY in this country want that to happen?
I really liked what the young ex Marine said about breaking the (gun ban) law: "An unconstitutional law is NOT A LAW". I also liked what Walter E. Williams said: "You'll know Williams is disarmed when Williams is dead." I hope I have the guts to follow them.

They may push for gun owners' mandatory liability insurance. This sounds innocuous and maybe even reasonable at first. However, the insurance companies will probably devise premiums based on risk. In that case those needing guns most for self-defense, low income inner city dwellers, will be unable to afford the premiums. Insurance companies may limit personal ammo, and all sorts of other restrictions.
e.g. Those who store firearms in locked safes will have much lower premiums than those who sleep with firearms on the bedside table.

GUN CONTROL - Cliff Notes Version:
Guns do BAD THINGS, but also GOOD THINGS. The BAD THINGS are done mostly by criminals. They are - armed robbery, murder, rape, home invasion, car jackings, etc..
The GOOD THINGS are done - almost exclusively - by good law abiding people. They are: the defensive use of guns (actual occurances) and all the ways guns are enjoyed by a free people: target shooting, hunting, collecting, etc.. Not to mention the Peace of Mind engendered by the very presence of a weapon within arms reach as one drifts off to sleep - PRICELESS (as Madison Avenue would put it).The GOOD THINGS that happen with guns VASTLY outnumber the BAD THINGS. And, note that they are done by DIFFERENT PEOPLE. Law abiding citizens do the GOOD THINGS and CRIMINALS do the BAD THINGS. The MEDIA, however, make it appear that is the other way around. Blowing for example, a school shooting (a statistical rarity - as horrible as it is) all out of propotion to it's actual reality in a nation of 300+ millions of people and a time frame of decades. [The most horrible school tagedy in this country happened in the U.S. in (I believe) 1927 and involved an explosive - NOT GUNS - and killed 75 (or so) children and adults.]

GUN CONTROL effects - almost by definition - LAW ABIDING CITIZENS - and therefore it DRIVES DOWN the GOOD USES of GUNS and DRIVES UP the BAD USES. This is, of course, because the criminals have many more defenseless victims to ROB, RAPE and MURDER.
This is EXACTLY THE WRONG OUTCOME. It is also, apparently, a pretty good description of the results of the GUN BAN in the UK. And, of course, the people who brought this situation about would NEVER ADMIT THEIR ERROR. Disarmed citizens are NEVER rearmed.

I'd rather die a free American "outlaw" with my gun in my hand than live as a sheep under the rule of an over zealous tyrant who forgot that our votes gave him his job. They forget that they are in a position of public service not a dictatorship. IL gov. Quinn says the people of Illinois want these bans, but I did not get a call or a questionnaire about this. Third whole thing is insulting.
